In the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, the city of Ayodhya, there is a Hindu temple built in the 10th century that is dedicated to Lord Hanuman. Along with Nageshwar Nath and the Ram temple that is still being built, it is one of the most significant temples in the city.

Hanumangadhi is located in the centre of Ayodhya, a revered city on the Sarayu River's banks. As Lord Rama's birthplace, Ayodhya has a significant religious and cultural significance in Hinduism.

It is thought that Lord Hanuman lived at Hanumangadhi during Lord Rama's exile in the forest. Hanuman allegedly stood watch over Ayodhya's entrance while waiting for Rama to return. This temple is considered to be at least 600-700 years old. It is said that the king of Kannauj had no children. His guru told as a solution, ‘Get a statue made of Hanumanji who had gone to the underworld to free Ram Lakshman from the snake noose. This idol of Hanumanji should be made and brought from Vindhyachal mountain.’ When the king of Kannauj did the same and brought the idol of Hanumanji from Vindhyachal by boat. Then suddenly the boat broke and the statue got submerged.

The king was very sad to see this and returned back to his kingdom. Many years after this incident, when the water level of Ganga decreased, Ram devotee Baba Balgiri Maharaj, who was trying to install Dhuni there, found this statue. Then after that the temple was constructed by the king there.
